TURKEY TO CANADA
Every year, thousands of people from all over the world come to Canada to start a new life. They come with many different skills and the hope of contributing to their new society.

This website will introduce you to Turkey and Turkish culture. Your interest in Turkey and the Turks may be due to your involvement in the HOST Program. You may be working with Turks in your organization or workplace, you may be open to offering jobs to newcomers or you may have Turkish students at your school. Whatever the reason for your interest, you can use this website to help you to become familiar with some aspects of Turkish culture.

Turkish people who come to Canada will have many of the same questions you would have if you moved to another city or country. They will want to know about schools and education, health care, jobs and places to live. They may also have questions about the community to which they now belong. It is important to understand some elements of the Turkish culture that your new friends may bring with them. This publication seeks to answer some of the questions that you may have about Turkey. To acquaint yourself better with your new friends, it will also be helpful to ask them about their homeland, their culture, customs, language and way of life.
Although this cultural profile provides insight into some customs it does not cover all facets of life. The customs described may not apply in equal measure to all newcomers from Turkey.
