Whatever their background, Peruvians everywhere enjoy music and dancing. Traditional music is performed on flutes, panpipes, drums, rattles and a small harp. Mestizo music also uses the same instruments and adds guitars, fiddles and horns. Mestizo bands attract large crowds in cafes and dance halls throughout Peru. Radio stations play Native traditional music as well as the latest pieces from North America.

The fiestas, which often celebrate religious and secular events, are held regularly in many communities across the country. Extended families and friends gather late into the night for food, drink and to enjoy one another's company. The people who can afford it spend a night on the town visiting favourite cafes or enjoying nightclub entertainment. Movies are also a popular form of entertainment in Peru.
