It is important to remember that the move to a new country and culture can be difficult. All immigrants leave behind family and friends. They will have many questions when they come to Canada. You can help them adjust to Canada and can answer many of their practical questions about schools, hospitals, or shopping.  Malaysians come from a multiracial country. Although this cultural profile provides insight into some customs, it does not cover all facets of life. The customs described may not apply in equal measure to all newcomers from Malaysia.

Of the many thousand species of insects found in Malaysia, one of the most interesting is the firefly. Along the Selangor River near Kuala Lumpur, thousands of fireflies flash at the same time, on and off like Christmas lights. Scientists cannot explain this phenomenon. Villagers used to put fireflies in bottles to serve as lamps.
