Libyans immigrate to Canada for many reasons. Some come to study at school or university, some to take up a job, and some to join their families. They all come with dreams and hopes for their future, but they leave behind families, friends, communities and a familiar way of life.

This website will give you some insight into how life in Libya is different from or similar to life in Canada. It will help you understand the changes your new friends are experiencing. This is not only an opportunity for you to help a Libyan family, but also a chance for you to learn about another culture.

Although this cultural profile provides insight into some customs, it does not cover all facets of life. The customs described may not apply in equal measure to all newcomers from Libya.
